EdventuresLAB’s Weekly Lab Program is for students ages 9-17.  These labs give students opportunities to explore many different areas in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) education including subjects like Robotics, Engineering, Game Development, Coding, Electronics, and more!

A typical lab session

The labs start with a 15 minute lesson which is based on the topic for the month.  These lessons are hands-on and presented in a fun and interesting way, exposing the students to subject areas they may have never considered.

After the lesson, students spend the remaining hour working on their individual projects.  Those projects could be in the same topic area as the lesson if they are interested in exploring that further.  Otherwise, students choose what they’d like to work on based on our badge system and curriculum.  Earning badges for projects completed, students strive to color-up in the badge system and become closer to expert level in many different STEAM areas.

Flexible come and go options

The labs are meant to be an ongoing program that are billed and scheduled monthly. Students can start up at any time throughout the year/month. Some people have been coming to lab for years while others come for a few months, take a break for sports, and return when their schedule slows down. Students see the benefits in school interest and motivation, more attuned problem solving skills, and technical reasoning triggering the left and the right sides of the brain when they are committed to the program for a length of time.

To accommodate busy schedules, it is possible for students to drop out for a busy sporting season or summer trip, but they can always come back and continue where they left off. The Badge System, our adaptive learning framework, enables this flexibility. Students who attend for three or four years will have been exposed to hundreds of hours of science, technology, engineering, and math activities and concepts. EdventuresLAB students enjoy access to materials, resources, and experiences typically unavailable, and the result is a student well-grounded in technology and science and well prepared with real world problem solving skills.

Classes are offered weekly

We offer classes and camps. Our classes are an hour and fifteen minutes and students attend once a week, just like music lessons. During their class, they will be introduced to important topics and concepts in science, technology, engineering, and math through a discovery session led by an instructor. Over half the class is for students to pursue hands-on robotics, engineering, statics, dynamics, math and more.

Class sessions are year-round and students can join anytime – we’ve made it flexible to accommodate busy schedules. Our class times vary depending on the time of year so check our schedule page. Enrollment is open and students can start at any time.

Occasional camps are offered too

Camps are short-term, usually during school breaks.

Failure is the path to discovery

The EdventuresLAB program and curriculum is designed to be experienced over a period of years – like attending a technical institute on a weekly basis. Developing a deep understanding of STEM topics and how they interrelate requires time and experimentation. A big part of mastery involves failure, so students learn a great deal when their bridge collapses, their wheels come off, or their program doesn’t work. This is how we build perseverance – an important habit of mind – but this takes time.
